Register of Deeds

The Clay County Register of Deeds office will be closed on November 26th & 27th

for the Thanksgiving Holiday. 

 

We are open to the public but request you make an appointment.

Masks are required in our office.

Documents brought in after 3:30 will be recorded the next business day.

Public access to computers and the vault will be cut off at 4:00 so that we can clean our office thoroughly.

 

Due to the current spread of the COVID-19 virus around the area and in the interest of preserving the health of our staff and our citizens, the Clay County Register of Deed's Office is encouraging people to consider doing business with our office via email or phone. Please mail documents to our office or go to https://simplifile.com/ to electronically file documents. We will be limiting walk in business if necessary, so please call ahead if you have any questions for our office. If you are sick, please take care of yourselves and others by staying home and taking the necessary health measures. We want to see our citizens remain healthy and happy!

The Register of Deeds Office keeps full and true computerized, filmed and scanned records of deeds, mortgages and other instruments authorized by law to be recorded. Filings consist of UCC's, fictitious names,  county indigent liens, sheriff's levy, personal property liens, federal tax liens, state tax liens and other miscellaneous documents. Birth, death and marriage certificates are issued from the South Dakota Department of Health Vital Records system.
